Wisconsin PreLicensing Requirements 

Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Wisconsin insurance agent license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)

Applicants must complete prelicense education (PLE) for each major line of authority (LOA).

An applicant who wishes to obtain a Life and Accident & Health license will receive a separate certificate of completion for each LOA.

State Candidate Handbook

Before making an exam reservation Applicants should thoroughly review the State of Wisconsin Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook which contains the exam content outlines and important information regarding eligibility and the examination and licensing application process.

State Law Handbook

The OCI has developed an Intermediary's Guide to Wisconsin Insurance Law which covers the Wisconsin law portion of the exam. While the PreLicense.com course covers all relevant insurance laws that are covered on the exam, students may wish to obtain a copy of the Guide as an additional study resource. Students may purchase a printed copy by sending a check or money order for $3.00 to: OCI, Agent Licensing Section, P.O. Box 7872, Madison, WI 53707-7872. PLE Course Delivery

Per Wisconsin PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the prelicense education course sequentially before they can be issued a certificate of completion.

PLE Course Exam

Certificate of Completion

PreLicense.com provides online, printable certificates of completion in Wisconsin.  An applicant must meet Wisconsin’s PLE requirements before a certificate of completion is issued.  The certificate is valid for 1 year from the date of course completion.

State Reporting Requirements

PreLicense.com reports PLE course completions electronically to Sircon daily.

State Licensing Exam

Important:   Wisconsin OCI requires that the prelicensing education course be completed prior to sitting for the state exam.  Candidates must have their certificates in hand before sitting for the state licensing exam.

 Methods of Registration

Important:  The school code for WebCE, Inc. is 21089.

Materials Needed to Present at Exam Site

Candidates must present a valid form of identification before taking the exam.  The identification must be government-issued (e.g. driver's license, state-issued identification card, passport, or military identification card.  It must contain both a current photo and signature (if not, the candidate must present 2 identification cards).

Testing Sites, Fees, and Schedules

State Exam Passing Score

Applicants must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license application.

Reservations for reexamination may not be made at the test center and candidates should have the failing score report available when they call to schedule a reexamination. Candidates must wait 24 hours before making a reservation for reexamination.

License Application Process

Within 48-72 hours of passing the examination, apply electronically for your license by visitingwww.sircon.com/wisconsin

Important:  Examination scores are valid for 30 days. Failure to apply for the license within 30 days of passing an examination will require the candidate to retake the examination.

New Resident Producer Requirements

New or current residents who are applying or reapplying for a resident license less than 12 months following license cancellation are exempt from prelicensing education and examination requirements.

Nonresident Producer Requirements

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Wisconsin agent license, without having to complete the prelicense education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and in good standing in their home state.

Fingerprints are not required for non-resident license candidates.

State-Required Product Training

Your state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell the following products:

Long-Term Care: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products, producers must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training course.

Annutiy Training: All producers currently licensed to sell, solicit, and negotiate annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours by prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.

Purchasing state-required Product Training with your exam prep course from the PreLicense.com catalog will allow you to take one of the special training requirement courses from WebCE. Additional fees for state filing, books or shipping may apply at the time you register to begin taking the product training course.
