Rhode Island PreLicensing Requirements
Individual Resident Producer Requirements
To
qualify for a resident Rhode Island state insurance producer license, the
applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

Handbook which contains
the exam content outlines and important information regarding eligibility
and the examination and licensing application process.
Course Delivery
Applicants
must read each lesson before they can proceed to the next lesson.
Exam Requirements
Passing
Score: PreLicense.com suggests students pass PreLicense.com's
mastery exam with a score of 75% or higher.
Certificate of Completion
Rhode
Island Department of Business Regulation does not require a PLE certificate of
completion.
State Reporting Requirements
Rhode
Island Department of Business Regulation does not require PLE course
completions to be reported to the state.

State Exam Passing Score
Applicants
must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license
application.
Pursuant
to Rhode Island rules, candidates who fail part one of the exam need retake
only the part they failed. The entire exam must be passed within 1 year from
the date of the passed part.

Criminal Background Report
Resident
applicants are required to obtain a certified criminal background report from
the Office of the Rhode Island Attorney General, which is located at 150 South
Main, Providence, Rhode Island 02903. Please contact (401) 274-4400 for more
information and the website address iswww.riag.state.ri.us. Important: Background reports are only valid for 30
days.
New Resident Producer Requirements
New
residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state may not
be required to take an examination as long as they meet the following
requirements:

Nonresident Producer Requirements
Nonresident
license candidates may obtain a Rhode Island producer license, without having
to take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a
resident and in good standing in their home state.

Criminal
background reports are not required for non-resident license candidates.
State-Required Product Training
Your
state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell
the following products:
Annuity Training: All producers currently licensed to sell, solicit, and
negotiate annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training course
approved for at least 4 hours prior to selling, soliciting, or
negotiating such products.
Long-Term Care: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance
products in Rhode Island, producers must complete an initial 8-hour NAIC
LTC course approved in any state.
