Louisiana PreLicensing Requirements

Individual Resident Producer Requirements

To qualify for a resident Louisiana insurance producer license, the applicant must satisfy the following requirements:

PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)

Applicants must complete prelicense education (PLE) for each major line of authority (LOA), as follows:

Certificate of Completion

PreLicense.com provides online, printable certificates of completion in Louisiana.  An applicant must meet Louisiana’s PLE requirements before a certificate of completion is issued.  Certificates are valid for one year.

State Reporting Requirements

PreLicense.com reports course completions to the Louisiana Department of Insurance daily.

State Licensing Exam

Beginning March 2, 2015 PSI Exams administers the licensing examinations in Louisiana.
Important:  Before registering and sitting for the exam, candidates must submit their license application online at 
www.nipr.com

You can register for a license examination within 24 hours of LDI’s receipt of the license application. Do not contact PSI until at least 24 hours after you have filed through NIPR.

State Exam Passing Score

Applicants must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license application.

There is no limit to the number of times you may take an exam within the one-year period allotted for each application as long as the license application and prelicensing certificate are still current.

New residents will not be required to complete prelicense education or take the license examination as long as:

Fingerprinting Process

New resident applicants who are not already licensed in Louisiana as a nonresident will be required to be fingerprinted.

Nonresident Producer Requirements

Nonresident license candidates may obtain a Louisiana producer license, without having to complete the prelicense education requirement or take a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident in their home state and in compliance with continuing education requirements in their home state.

Fingerprinting Process

There are no fingerprint requirements for nonresidents in Louisiana.

State-Required Product Training

Your state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell the following products:

Long-Term Care Training: Before selling, soliciting, or negotiating LTC/LTCP insurance products, a producer must complete an initial 8-hour state-approved LTC/LTCP training course.

Additional fees for state filing, books or shipping may apply at the time you register to begin taking the product training course.
