Indiana PreLicensing Requirements
Individual Resident Producer Requirements
To
qualify for a resident Indiana state insurance producer license, the applicant
must satisfy the following requirements:
PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)
Applicants
must complete prelicense education (PLE) for each
major line of authority (LOA), as follows:

information regarding eligibility and the examination and licensing application
process.

Certificate of Completion
PreLicense.com
provides online, printable certificates of completion in Indiana. An
applicant must meet Indiana’s PLE requirements before a certificate of
completion is issued. Certificates are valid for 6 months.
Candidates must pass their exam and apply for their license during this 6 month
period.
IMPORTANT: You must bring your certificate of completion with you when you
arrive at the test center to take the exam.
State Reporting Requirements
Prelicense.com
reports PLE course completions electronically to Sircon
daily. The Indiana Department of Insurance charges a $4.00 per course
state roster fee for course completion reports. This state-mandated fee
is included in the course price.
State Licensing Exam
The
Indiana Department of Insurance has teamed up with Performance Assessment
Network (PAN) and Ivy Tech State College to administer the state licensing
exams. Registration is done online through the PAN system, and exams are
administered at an Ivy Tech Testing Center.
Note: Registration
for the exam can be done prior to completing the required hours of
pre-licensing education; however, the credits MUST be completed before you can
sit for the exam.

State Exam Passing Score
Applicants
must pass the state licensing exam with a 67% or higher to file a license
application.
Exam Retakes
There
are no limits to the number of exam retakes, so long as the process is
completed within 6 months of completing the prelicense
education requirement.

residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will
not be required to complete prelicense education or
take the license examination as long as:

Nonresident Producer Requirements
Nonresident
license candidates may obtain an Indiana agent license, without having to
complete the prelicense education requirement or take
a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and
in good standing in their home state.

State-Required Product Training
Your
state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell
the following products:
Annuity Training: All producers licensed to sell, solicit, and negotiate
annuity products must complete a one-time annuity training
course approved for at least 4 hours prior to selling,
soliciting, or negotiating such products.
Long-Term Care: Before marketing, selling, or soliciting any LTC products, a
producer must initially complete an 8-hour basic LTC
continuing education course specifically approved for LTC.

state filing, books or shipping may apply at the time you register to begin
taking the product training course.
