Georgia PreLicensing Requirements
Individual Resident Producer Requirements
To
qualify for a resident Georgia state insurance producer license, the applicant
must satisfy the following requirements:
PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)
Applicants
must complete 20-hours of prelicense education (PLE)
for each major line of authority (LOA). An applicant who wishes to obtain a
Life and Accident & Sickness license must complete 40 hours of PLE, and
will receive a separate certificate of completion for each LOA.
State Candidate Handbook
Before
making an exam reservation Candidates should thoroughly review the Georgia Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook, which contains the Exam Content Outline and important information regarding
eligibility and the examination and licensing application process.
Course Delivery
Per Georgia
PLE requirements, applicants are required to complete all of the lessons in the
prelicense education course sequentially before they
can be issued a certificate of completion.
Course Exam
Certificate of Completion
PreLicense.com
provides online, printable certificates of completion in Georgia. An
applicant must meet the course delivery requirements before a certificate of
completion is issued.
Certificates
of completion are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Applicants
must pass the state licensing exam within 12 months of completing a
prelicensing course.
Note:
Candidates who fail the examination three (3) times and had taken a
prelicensing course through an independent provider will be required to retake
a prelicensing course from a different provider prior to retaking the
examination.
State Reporting Requirements
Currently,
Georgia Office of Insurance does not require PLE course completions to be
reported to the state.
State Licensing Exam
IMPORTANT: When making a licensing exam reservation, applicants
will be required to provide their provider school code number. PreLicense.com's Georgia provider school code number is
159132.

State Exam Passing Score
Candidates
must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license
application.
Note:
Candidates who fail the examination three (3) times and had taken a
prelicensing course through an independent provider will be required to retake
a prelicensing course from a different provider prior to retaking the
examination.
Exam Retakes
Candidates
who receive a failing score must wait 2 weeks before retesting.
License Application Process
Important:
Applicants must apply for licensure within 12 months from receiving a passing
grade on the examination.
In accordance with the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement
Act of 2011, all applicants submitting a license application must submit a
signed and notarized copy of a Citizenship Affidavit form and a copy of one
secure and verifiable identification document to the Georgia Office of
Commissioner of Insurance before the license application can be processed.
The Citizenship Affidavit form is available for download from the
state website here. The form includes as an attachment the list of
acceptable identification documents.
If applying online, an applicant may complete the Citizenship
Affidavit form, have it notarized, scan the form and identification documents,
and send them as an email attachment to agents@oci.ga.gov. If submitting a
paper application, submit the two required documents together with the
application by mail.

New Resident Producer Requirements
New
residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state will
not be required to complete prelicense education or
take the license examination as long as the application is received within 90
days of their former home state license being cancelled and the license being
applied for is the same line of authority as in the previous state. The license
candidates must obtain a Letter of Clearance from their former home state and
submit the original along with all required application materials (see below).

Nonresident
license candidates may obtain a Georgia agent license, without having to
complete the prelicense education requirement or take
a license examination, as long as they are currently licensed as a resident and
in good standing in their home state.

State-Required Product Trianing
Your
state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell
the following products:
Long-Term Care: Before selling LTC insurance products in Georgia, producers
must complete an initial 8-hour, state-approved LTC training
course.
Purchasing
State-required Product Training with your exam prep course from the
PreLicense.com catalog will allow you to take one of the special training
requirement courses from WebCE. Additional fees for
state filing, books or shipping may apply at the time you register to begin
taking the product training course.
