Alabama PreLicensing Requirements
Individual Resident Producer Requirements
To qualify for a resident Alabama state insurance producer license, the
applicant must satisfy the following requirements:
PreLicense Education Requirements (PLE)
Applicants must complete prelicense education (PLE)
for each major line of authority (LOA), as follows:

regarding eligibility and the examination and licensing application process.

Certificate of Completion
Upon completing the PreLicense.com course, a certificate of completion will be
mailed to the applicant’s address on file within 2 business days. An
applicant must meet Alabama’s PLE requirements before a certificate of
completion is issued. Certificates of completion are valid for one year from
date issued.
IMPORTANT:
You must bring your certificate of completion with you when you arrive at the
test center to take the exam. The test center will accept a copy only if
the notary stamp and signatures are legible by the proctor.
State Reporting Requirements
Currently,
Alabama Department of Insurance does not require PLE course completions to be
reported to the state.
State Licensing Exam
Note:
You may, but it is advised by the Alabama Department of Insurance, that
you do not register for the state exam until AFTER completing
your pre-license course. You must have your certificate in hand in order
to sit for the state exam.
The
Alabama Department of Insurance has teamed up with The University of Alabama
College of Continuing Studies to administer the state licensing exams.

State Exam Passing Score
Applicants
must pass the state licensing exam with a 70% or higher to file a license
application.
Exam Retakes
If
you do not pass on the first attempt, you may retake the exam without a
mandatory waiting period. If you do not pass on the second attempt, you
must wait 90 days to re-test. If you do not pass on the third attempt, you may
retake the exam without a mandatory waiting period. If you do not pass on
the fourth attempt, you must wait 180 days to take each subsequent exam.

Fingerprinting Process
New - Effective April 1, 2015, all applicants
seeking to become licensed or who are adding a new line of authority to an
existing license must have completed a fingerprint background check.
Applicants should seek to get fingerprinted at least 10 days before applying
for the license. Instructions can be found here: www.cogentid.com.
New Resident Producer Requirements
New residents who still hold an active license in their previous home state
will not be required to complete prelicense education
or take the license examination as long as:

Nonresident Producer Requirements
Nonresident
license candidates may obtain an Alabama producer license, without having to
complete the prelicense education requirement or take
a license examination, as long as they are currently hold an active license in
their resident state for the same lines of authority for which they are
applying.

State-Required Product Training
Your
state has special training requirements in order for licensed agents to sell
the following products:
Long-Term Care: Initial 8-hour LTC training requirement: Before selling,
soliciting, or negotiating LTC insurance products in Alabama, producers must
complete an initial 8-hour NAIC LTC training course approved in any state.
Purchasing
State-required Product Training with your exam prep course from the
PreLicense.com catalog will allow you to take one of the special training
requirement courses from WebCE. Additional fees for
state filing, books or shipping may apply at the time you register to begin
taking the product training course.
